Darin and Drake Graduation 2015 ASU

Darin and Drake Graduation 2015 ASU

Our names are Darin and Drake Sisneros and we currently live in Alamosa, CO.  We graduated from Alamosa High School in 2011 and Adam State University in 2015. In high school we were known for being good students and an athletes. We were part of the science club, FBLA, science fair, NHS, and journalism. Drake was the senior class president and Darin was club rep. We ran cross country and our senior year our team had placed second in the state. Darin was a runner-up and a state champion in wrestling and Drake had placed 4th his senior year. We both had helped the team win a state title in 2011. After we graduated high school, we continued to be involved with the wrestling team by volunteering our time as assistant coaches. While coaching were able to witness the two subsequent championships.

We wanted to continue our wrestling careers at the college level, but decided not to so that we could focus on our academics. We continued to stay active with coaching, weightlifting, playing intramural football, and joining the ASU cycling team. During our college career, we continued to involve ourselves in many extracurricular activities. We were part of the national honors biological society, the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science, and the National Society for Leadership and Success. In college we worked in a few different places. We worked at Safeway as courtesy clerks, at ASU extended studies as office assistants, and Darin worked as chemistry laboratory prep and teaching assistant, while Drake tutored for biology and chemistry and prepared labs for a developmental biology lab. We participated in scientific research our junior and senior year involving the developmental genetics and functional conservation of fruit fly genes. We continued a good work ethic throughout undergrad and made the dean’s list for multiple semesters and obtained cum laude honors in one of the hard hardest degree programs Adams State offers. We were also very fortunate for maintaining the Porter Scholarship for 4 years as it helped us travel the world, perform independent research, and obtain a quality education.

We are currently in the process of applying to medical school for the fall of 2016. Our dream school is Colorado University of Denver because we love the environment, their mission, and the fact that it is in our favorite state. We know medical school will be a challenge, but our motto has always been, “If we can’t do it then who can?” The past two summers we had traveled to Costa Rica, Australia, and New Zealand. We want to continue traveling this next year and hopefully make our way to a Central American country to learn Spanish. When we are not working or studying, someone can usually us me hanging out with friends or family. We love to get outdoors and hike, bike, ride snowmobiles, camp, fish, and the list goes on. We can’t live without our mountains. We think we would go crazy if we lived in a city where we couldn’t see the night sky, smell the fresh air, and hear nature’s beautiful sounds.

If we could be any animal, we would love to be ducks. Ducks are unique in that they can walk, fly, and swim. We would love floating in a calm reservoir or river after a long day of flying over a beautiful landscape. One of the weirdest things that we have ever eaten is kangaroo. We would compare the tough texture and gamey taste to that of deer meat. One of the worst things we have done as kids was spray my sister and her friends with water from a garden hose. If we could eliminate anything from our schedule it would be having to go to the restroom. I hate having to stop what I am doing and breaking my concentration for a trip to the loo. If we were to write a book it would be titled The Many Wonderful Hats of Darin and Drake Sisneros. We feel that we have many different sides to us that allow us to interact with and relate to a diverse population. We have small town country roots, we have worked with our hands outside, we are athletic, religious, we have Hispanic and German ancestry, we are science nerds, and the list goes on! One thing we hate doing is filling out applications for schools, scholarships, etc. We understand why applications are necessary, but we just wish we could communicate with admissions representatives face to face to communicate and display our aptitude without having to write it all on paper. We have lived a very fulfilling life and we often wish we could clone myself even more to handle multiple responsibilities at once. However, we feel that all of our responsibilities has shaped us into great young men and we look forward to what life brings us next. Below are a few silly Q and A’s about us:

What’s the naughtiest thing you did in school?

Drake: In kindergarten, I crawled under the table during reading groups and tied a kid’s shoes together.

What’s the silliest thing you have heard people say about you?

Darin: My mom passes a silly story about me at every Christmas to say how I threw a tantrum when the toilet automatically flushed, and I couldn’t do it myself.

Share one funniest, one silliest and one wackiest status you have put up on a social networking site.

Drake: This would have to be the Jedi Cat Video on youtube! https://youtu.be/XXVteUqNkRk

.Share a funny incident in your life.

Drake: I had my headphones on when I farted and I didn’t realize anyone else noticed, and tapped me on the shoulder to say you do realize that made a sound right?

What’s the funniest pick up line used on you?

Darin: If I were DNA helicase I would unzip your genes.

Have you been told, you look like someone famous? What is that one thing which makes you different?

Drake: I’ve heard that I look like Daniel Radcliff. I never saw it though. I have a jaw that looks like it can take a punch.

What food would be impossible for you to give up?

Darin: It would be impossible for me to give up eating tamales.

What do you want to be remembered for?

Darin: I want to be remembered for being a nice guy that worked hard to manage a life full of family, friends and education.

Do you have any interesting qualities about yourself?

Drake: My other interesting qualities include having super stretchy elbows (think Stretchy Armstrong) and being naturally good at pull-ups. Mrs. V was there to witness me break the pull-up record at AHS with 36.

This could be you! Write a story for us and it will be posted here!
